The planned work of landscape art that is supposed to give the solar field a unique character is also dedicated to the former Prime Minister. Danny Lavie intends to use asphalt fragments to “draw” Ben Gurion’s facial expression to his own design, so that they will be a part of the whole landscape. But, once completed, his work will only be recognisable from a distance and from above. In other words from an aeroplane, on the way to Eilat or nearby Akaba in Jordan. Or on the internet using Google Earth.
German expertise
The type of German-Israeli cooperation is also unusual. “Siemens builds green power stations in other places too, but not in this type of partnership”, explains the local Siemens boss, Eliezer Tokman. The thing is, with this joint project it isn’t just about investment and involvement, he says, it’s about technological expertise. Tokman attributes the fact that this joint venture is running so smoothly to “mutual appreciation”, among other things. “Although the engineers from both countries are coming from completely different directions, they understand each other well. The Germans say: we can learn from you because your technology companies manage to make a lot out of a little. Conversely the Israelis value the German ability to actually get things done.
