German embassy in Tel Aviv
Unlike the diplomatic presences of the Americans, French and English, the German embassy in Tel Aviv is not near the sea. It is – relatively discreetly and unspectacularly – located on the 19th floor of a high-rise office block in the city centre (3 Daniel Frish Street). The ambassador’s residence, like many others besides, is in Herzliya. Bilateral relations are considered to be exceptional and good. They have come a long way.
Anyone coming to the German ambassador’s reception on the Day of German Unification should expect a large crowd. Nowadays Germany is considered by local leaders to be the second-most important partner after the USA – in a political and economic sense as well as academically and technologically. There are over a hundred twinning arrangements between cities and regions, active youth exchange schemes and tourism, as well as very close cultural and community links.
