Tmuna Theatre in Tel Aviv
The façade of the Tmuna Theatre could not be told apart from the car workshops that have sprung up all around the area were it not for the awning over the entrance. There are no restaurants or cafés round here. You don’t stumble upon it accidentally one evening, visitors will be specifically looking for an alternative programme.
In the Tmuna Theatre they do not put on classic plays, they have been showing experimental material for nearly thirty years. Israeli artist Nava Zuckerman founded this multimedia fringe stage, which has now virtually become “established”. The programme is highly eclectic. As well as theatre, there are installations, readings, exhibitions, performances, video art and rock concerts. Depending on requirements, these events take place either on the stage with tiered seating for the audience, or on the platform in the theatre’s dimly-lit in-house bar.
